This qualification delivers the basic foundations and content for students to develop the skills and knowledge used in the building and construction industry, specialising in Brick and Blocklaying techniques. Students will also learn how to apply safe work practices necessary for the safe use and maintenance of a wide range of tools and equipment generally use on-the-job. These include:

  • Power Tools
  • Cement Mixers
  • Automatic and Laser Levels
  • Scaffolding
  • Generators

Job summary:

The bricklyaing apprentice will:

  • lay bricks and blocks
  • construct masonry walls, stairs, corners; curved walls, structural masonry systems, piers and columns
  • pre-cut stone
  • concrete
  • use other types of building blocks in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures

Career Opportunities:

Graduates will complete the program with the skills and knowledge recognised in industry for roles and titles in various sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

  • Bricklayer
  • Concreter
  • Stonemason

Pathways to further Learning::

Graduates of this qualifcation combined with a Queensland Certificate of Education gained after completion of the School-based Program may continue further study at a higher level qualification in VET or Tertiary. This pathway can include:
