Course Overview

This course is provided for apprentices and employers with apprentices requiring off-the-job training in a practical environment.

Students engaging in an Australian School-based Apprenticeship in a college environment will be encouraged to complete up to 45% of the course in the two years at College.

About this program:

This qualification delivers the basic foundations and content for students to develop the skills and knowledge used in the building and construction industry, specialising in plastering techniques. Students will also learn how to apply safe work practices necessary for the safe use and maintenance of a wide range of tools and equipment generally used on-the-job. These include:

  • Hand tools and levels
  • Cement mixers
  • Power tools
  • Scaffolding

Job Summary:

Solid Plasters apply coats of plaster, cement or similar materials to the exterior and interior surfaces of floors, walls and ceilings. They construct various decorative mouldings, textured finishes, ornamental finishes and restore and renovate solid plasterwork. The plaster apprentice will perform tasks including:

  • Setting out
  • Clean and prepare surfaces
  • Level and straighten corners, angles, and wall and ceiling surfaces
  • Render exterior walls and moulds
  • Apply finishing coats of plaster to give a smooth finish or decorative texture
  • Restore and renovate solid plasterwork
  • Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding

Graduates will complete the program with the skills and knowledge recognised in industry for roles and titles in various sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

Pathways to further Learning:

Graduates of this qualifcation combined with a Queensland Certificate of Education gained after completion of the School-based Program may continue further study at a higher level qualification in VET or Tertiary . This pathway can include:

  • Diploma
