Certificate II in Workplace Practices

Course Overview

Workplace Practices is a Certificate II subject. The level of skill and knowledge acquisition aligns with AQF qualifications Level II. Therefore qualifications gained are recognised and will account as "Recognition for Prior Learning" for further tertiary studies in related business areas. The content is designed to introduce students to the working world and prepare them for the transition from school to employment.

We explore workplace behaviour, culture and image; Industry Awards, unions, OH&S and employer/employee rights and responsibilities in the workplace. We examine the qualities of successful teams and critique our own effectiveness as team members. Applying learned skills, we work in teams and create a small enterprise, running it in our senior year and then analysing our success. All aspects of this project, including proposal creation and presentation, preparation and co-ordination must be done to workplace standards - thus supplying a thorough and comprehensive understanding of what the workplace expects from us - and what we can expect from it!

Student-apprentices leave this subject armed with Application Letters, Resumes and Action Plans having considered and determined a path for their future beyond ATCNB. Finally, the 2 year programme requires 80 hours of Structured Wokplace Learning. Thus all student-apprentices must complete some work experience with prospective employers. Wise adaptation of this requirement allows students the ability to investigate a number of specialist job types within their chosen industry areas in order to get a wider understanding of an appropriate and preferred career direction.
