BrisbaneBrisbane has a unique combination of the old and the new – where sandstone cathedrals blend seamlessly with steel and glass skyscrapers, where modern architectural design is teamed with a healthy respect for tradition. The streets are linked with a network of grassy parks, drooping palm trees and a river that snakes through the heart of town which reflects a sub-tropical environment. Pristine, colourful, adventurous, inviting and open; these are all accurate descriptions of the heart of the city. As Queensland’s capital, Brisbane has it all and it is the perfect hub for exploring its wide variety of outer lying regions. Spectacular Moreton Bay beckons with its expansive waterways and myriad of islands, as does the white sand surf beaches of the Gold and Sunshine coasts. The regional hinterland is a well-kept secret worthy of exploration, as you’ll find it filled with arts, crafts and interesting characters. ScarboroughThe beautiful seaside town of Scarborough is a vibrant, lively precinct where something is always happening. Located at the north end of the Redcliffe Peninsula is the Scarborough Boat Harbour. Many tour operators launch from here, as well as the vehicular ferries that service Moreton Island. Nearby Newport Marina is also home to a number of cruise, scuba charter and fishing experience tour operators. Fishing, boating, diving and yachting activities are all based in Scarborough. Fresh seafood is synonymous with Scarborough with many visitors making the trek to enjoy a gourmet feast or a more casual outdoor meal of fish and chips. Scarborough was dubbed home of ‘Australia’s Friendliest Beach’ in 2004 in the Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge. The beach area and its surrounding esplanades and parks are enjoyed by family groups picnicking and playing, swimmers, water sports enthusiasts, walkers, cyclists and even parachuters who often use the beach as a landing zone. For most students the QCE will be achieved over Years 11 and 12. Others may not achieve it until after they finish Year 12. The total amount of learning required is at least twenty credits. This reflects an amount of learning that could be reasonably achieved by most young people over a two-year, full-time program of study in the senior phase of learning. What is a credit? A credit is a minimum amount of learning at a set standard that can contribute to the QCE. A credit has two elements: an amount of learning and a set standard. Some learning achievements will be recorded in the earning Account but will not be a credit because they either do not have the required amount of learning or they do not meet the set standard.
