Values & Mission
The establishment of the Australian Trade College North Brisbane is an exciting development in Independent Education and is an initiative of the Australian Government in partnership with business and industry. This facility enables students to study in a co-educational, independent school setting, while gaining trade qualifications in industries of their choice. It is similar to attending a secondary college, with all the guidelines of discipline and uniforms, but the focus is on “Excellence while getting a Trade” and this generates a unique campus atmosphere.
The College offers a range of Australian School-based Apprenticeships (ASbA) in the identified “skills needs” areas. Students undertake their Year 11 and 12 studies in a school environment and:
- enter into an ASbA and undertake training for a trade qualification leading to Certificate III level, which will result in a nationally recognised qualification.
- study academic subjects, leading to a Year 12 certificate.
- gain IT, employability and business skills, eventually enabling them to run their own business if they desire.
- have the option to go on to further study at university.
Qualifications (including a Certificate III and a partial apprenticeship qualification) are recognised by “higher learning” educational institutions or assist in gaining a full time apprenticeship and further trade qualifications. A Senior Certificate (QCE) and an OP equivalent Selection Rank Score will also be issued on request. As well, the College graduates will have had two years’ exposure working in a business, and have a better understanding of the key elements to succeed in business.
Teachers / trainers
Our teachers/trainers are qualified in the trade areas in which they teach, and the course content is designed to provide students with the most realistic skills development possible on campus. Facilities and educational services offered by the College are of high quality, establishing the College as a centre of excellence in trade training. This is then reinforced as students work off-site in businesses that sponsor the work-based training component of their apprenticeship.
Facilities
The College campus is located on a magnificent site at Scarborough. The Scarborough campus offers a curriculum in Commercial Cookery, Building and Construction, Automotive, Metal and Engineering and Electrotechnology.
