The course is provided for senior students engaging in an Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA) in a college environment (therefore becoming student apprentices) and for people working in the Air-conditioning Industry installing split air-conditioning systems.
This course will provide the client with the skills and knowledge to install residential split system air conditioning systems and apply for restricted licensing issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council.
The qualification meets the Federal Government's new Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 2003 regulations for the Restricted Split Air-Conditioning Installation and Decommissioning Refrigerant Handling Licence. However, those carrying out this work in Queensland must be supervised under the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) requirements for air-conditioning work, by a person with an OFT refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Qualified Supervisor Certificate.
This qualification excludes competencies required for service, repair, maintenance, diagnostic/fault finding and electrical work or the safe and proper installation of commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning plant and equipment.

Entry Requirements:
• entry-level contracted employment as a New Apprenticeship
• employees whose current occupation needs to be upgraded to a new Electrotechnology Industry Qualification (including those trained outside Australia)
• allied occupations wishing to multi-skill by seeking to obtain an Electrotechnology Industry Qualification (including those trained outside Australia)

Competencies: 
Apply OHS practices in the workplace
Dismantle, assemble and fabricate Electrotechnology components.
Fix and secure equipment.
Use drawings, diagrams, schedules and manuals
Document occupational hazards and risks in refrigeration and air-conditioning
Participate in development and follow a personal competency development plan
Prepare refrigeration tubing and fittings
Position, assemble and start up split air-conditioning systems
Recover, pressure and leak test, evacuate and charge refrigerants ¾ split air conditioning systems
Source and purchase material/parts for installation or service jobs
*Plus one or more electives
